The Animation Tag

Poached this tag from Olivia at Meanwhile in Rivendell because it looked fun. I'm probably too old for this kind of thing now but who cares, it's childhood memories and now I can pretend that I'm looking at these films with a screen-writing eye. I wrote a whole essay on the structure of Mulan for my masters don't you know?

1. Who's you favourite animated heroine?
Mulan.

2. Who's your favourite animated hero?
This is a hard one. I think Aladdin, because he's more human than a lot of the others. He makes mistakes but he's kind - I love when he gives the little kids the bread.  Robin Hood would be number one if he was actually a human, and for sheer attractiveness it would have to be Dimitri from Anastasia. I sense a theme developing here - but I promise I don't have a thing for thieves and con-men. When I was little I was also a bit in love with Proteus from Sinbad, and he's definitely the nice guy of the piece. Thinking about it, maybe it's the noble, self-sacrificing thing that gets me?

3. If there was to be a sequel(or even a third, fourth, or fifth part)(and then I don't mean like Frozen Fever and Tangled Ever After, those short movies, but a real one) of an animated movie, where would you like it to be about?
Disney sequels are always a mistake, in my opinion (excepting The Rescuers Down Under, which is better than the first one) but it would be cool to see a Beauty and the Beast sequel. Not a 1.2 or whatever they call it, like Enchanted Christmas, but a story where we actually get to see Belle and the Beast interacting while he's human. Princess and the Frog would be good for the same reason. They bore me as frogs, I'd rather see them in their human form...

4. Which couple from an animated movie do you think is highly underrated?
Going a bit more obscure here with Kayley and Garrett from Magic Sword: Quest for Camelot. It's a terrible film in a lot of ways but the score is fab and I love Kayley (wayward, slightly annoying eighteen year old who wants to be a knight) and Garrett (exasperated blind hermit) as a couple. It's been years since I watched Sinbad but he and Marina are also a really interesting pair I think. You don't get a lot of love triangles in kids films but I thought they played this one really well.

5. Which couple do you like most?
Flynn and Rapunzel are the most romantic, definitely, followed by Belle and the Beast.

6. Which song is your favourite?
Don't ask me to choose. Anything Alan Menken/Howard Ashman I suppose. Although I do like the old-fashioned style of the Cinderella and Snow White songs.

7. And if you should choose a song that isn't likely to be chosen by you, one that didn't immediately come up in your mind but is still a favourite, which one would it be?
I love Dig Dig Dig from Pocahontas - or whatever it's called. Especially the bit John Smith sings.

8. What animation movie did you first think you wouldn't like, but eventually you did?
I didn't fancy Bug's Life as a kid, but now it's my favourite Pixar film.

9. Which two do you always consider as a couple, even though they are not a definite couple, but almost no one else does?
Er...

10. Which girl from an animated movie has the best hairstyle(s)?
Well obviously Rapunzel. But I also love Jasmine's. It's so thick!

11. Which is the best dress?
Ah, see this changes. As a kid it was like anything you hardly see was the best. Belle's winter outfits at the castle, that blue sparkly thing Ariel wears when her dad gives her her legs back, Anastasia's yellow dress in the Once Upon a Dream Sequence. Now I love Cinderella's ball outfit - especially with the choker. And Ariel's wedding dress - it's so eighties, I love it.

12. Which sidekick is the best according to you?
Mushu and Crickey. Or Abu and the Carpet - I like the double acts.

13. What's your favourite Disney princess movie?
Got to be Mulan. Pocahontas and Tangled tied for second place.

14. What's your favourite animated movie (no Disney princess movies included)?
Ooh, I like loads. Maybe Anastasia or Spirit. Or even Swan Princess, although it's so terrible.

15. What is your Disney personality?
I identify most with Mulan, I think. Not like I could save China single handed or anything, but we're both a bit scatty and disorganised. Plus I feel like a lot of the Disney girls have unparalleled levels of self-confidence (which is a good thing - we should teach girls to believe in themselves) whereas Mulan is a bit more unsure.

16. Which animated girl do you think looks most like you (in looks, not in character)?
I've been told I look like Violet from The Incredibles. Also Francis from A Bug's Life. I like to think this is because I have big eyes, not because I am totally freakish looking.

17. Which statement do you think is true and which not(you know, those things on Pinterest that say...for example: That Elsa and Anna are Rapunzels cousins, and that Tarzan is Anna and Elsa's brother or that the oldest girl from Despicable Me is maybe Riley's mom from Inside Out)?
None of them really.

18. What animated movie did you expect much of, but turned out to be much worse than you originally thought?
I wish I liked Princess and the Frog more - they just spend way too much time as Frogs. And I still think Frozen's a bit overrated...

  1. Yay for mentions of Quest for Camelot and the Swan Princess. Though I'm a huge Disney fan and my favorites are of course Tangled, Beauty and the Beast, etc.

I agree; a sequel with The Princess and the Frog would be good. I found the whole frog thing very long, boring and disappointing. I really think they should've done a better job with that. Like the movie become more of a Saturday morning cartoon than anything else. Sigh.

Aww Ariel's wedding dress! Haha, you are right it is the definition of 80s. Funny that I never thought about it. Reminds me of Sarah's gorgeous dress in Labyrinth.

    1. That's it, it WAS like a Saturday morning cartoon. It was such a shame because Tiana and the Prince both looked so great and you hardly got to see Naveen (is that his name?) as a human at all :( I've never seen Labyrinth but I'm going to have to fix that! Definitely need to be more up on my eighties classics, just saw the Princess Bride for the first time this year too, haha

Awww, that gif for #4 is so cute!! <3

Haha, "Dig, Dig, Dig" . . . I love that song, too. Actually I love most things about that movie . . .

"Ah, see this changes" for which is the best dress -- I feel you there!! Oh, I also usually love the dresses we only see for a few moments! Not just in animated films, but in others, too.

Eeeeee!!!! I'd forgotten that you were a fellow Pocahontas fan!! :D

The Swan Princess is one of my FAVORITE MOVIES EVER, and Anastasia and Spirit are also great favorites. ;)

Thanks for the fun post! Hope you're doing well. :)
