Top Ten Tuesday: Books Santa could send me if he wanted...

The topic for this week's Top Ten Tuesday (a weekly meme hosted at The Broke and the Bookish) is books we'd like for Christmas. People keep asking me this question but I can never think of anything when put on the spot. Now that almost everyone's finished their shopping, of course, I can think of loads. Or at least the kind of things I'd like. And here they are:

A classic with a pretty cover

I love looking at all the classic books with their fancy covers in Waterstones, but I can't really justify buying them for myself. We've probably got a tatty paperback version of most classics in the house anyway and knowing me I'll just drop them in the bath or whatever. Still, I wouldn't mind one like this as a present - I'd probably go for Mansfield Park as it's the only Jane Austen I don't have a copy of and I'm probably due a re-read.

What I'm Watching: Trashy Christmas Films!

Happy first of December! Now that we can open the first door on our advent calendars (yes, I still get one - don't judge me) we can properly begin to enter into the Christmas spirit. Although I'd still argue that watching the 'proper' Christmas films (It's a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, Muppet's Christmas Carol) would be a bit premature, it's never too early for a bit of Christmas trash. Bring on your Sony Christmas channel, True Christmas, your Channel 5 afternoon movies and best of all, Christmas 24. They're cute, they're Christmassy, they're totally predictable, hugely cheesy and the acting is dubious. And I love them.

These are films made for settling down to with a duvet, following a bit of Christmas shopping or whatever manic Christmas activity you've been busy with. Here's a few of the best corny Christmas movies to look out for!

Teaser Tuesday - Career of Evil

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by, and anyone can join in. All you need to do is: a) open your current read to a random page and share two teaser sentences. b) Let us know the title and author and c) link back to the host blog and leave your link in the comments. Also, keep it spoiler free!
My teaser this week is from Robert Galbraith's (AKA J.K Rowling's) third Cormoran Strike mystery, Career of Evil which I just finished within, like, two days. There was good and bad to it, but it definitely hooked me!

'"I'll deal with Brockbank, if he's in there," said Strike, lighting up. "You're not going anywhere near him.                                                                            Robin got back into the Land Rover.                      "Try not to punch him, won't you?" she muttered at Strike's retreating figure as he walked with a slight limp towards the house, his knee stiff from the journey.
